Phosphating
This is a metallurgical process for the protection of metal surfaces, which consists of coating metallic parts with zinc, iron and manganese phosphate, either in the form of neutral phosphates (PO4-3) or as monoacids (HPO4-2). Due to the low phosphate solubility of these chemical elements, the phosphates are deposited on the metal surface for which protection is intended in the form of a fine layer of crystals after contact with solutions of these elements, observing certain conditions.
These serve as a conversion coating in which a diluted solution of phosphoric acid, which is applied via spray or immersion, reacts chemically with the surface of the part being coated to form a layer of insoluble crystalline phosphates.
These phosphate films possess the following main properties: high chemical and electric insulating capacity and low porosity, which together will act to impede the transmission of galvanic electric currents, great adherence to the metal surface, good adhesiveness to the lubricants (the objective being to improve lubricity) and paints and varnishes, with low application costs. They are used on steel parts to increase resistance to corrosion.
A necessary condition for the application of phosphating is cleaning the parts, by degreasing as well as pickling, the aim of the first being to remove oils and greases, and of the latter, removal of oxides.
The main areas related to this segment are:
Production of tubular furniture parts(beds, chairs, tables, etc.);
Production of closets, shelves, safes and metal filing cabinets;
Production of automobiles;
Production of bicycles;
Production of domestic appliances in steel (stoves, refrigerators, air conditioning, fans, etc); Production of furniture parts in steel in general (office, computer, hospital, school, etc);
Production of steel window-frames, gates, tanks, extinguishers, electric frames, signs, etc;
Metalwork in general;
Service Providers in general for recovery and painting of metal parts.
